NFL Week 2 saw Some Good Action

For people who pick the favorites on the moneyline, it was a great NFL Week 2. Fourteen of the 16 favorites won their games, but only half of them managed to cover the spread. The Los Angeles Rams, one of the two victorious underdogs, only overcame a spread of a single point.

In 10 of the games, teams combined to score enough points to pay off on the over bet. Atlanta and Dallas lit up the scoreboard for 79 points in regulation, 26.5 points above the betting threshold. On Thursday night, the Browns and Bengals’ 35-30 shootout went 21.5 points over the 43.5 betting line.

Overall, Week 2 scoring was up 85 points to 843, over five points a game over Week 1. That’s not unexpected, as offenses continue to develop their rhythm after the absence of preseason games. The total compares to 737 for the total over/under lines, a difference of nearly seven points a game.

Down To the Wire

There was late-game drama for bettors, with the Steelers neglecting to kick a late field goal inside the 10. The chip shot would have given the Steelers (-7.5) an eight-point win instead of failing to cover.

In Miami, the Dolphins scored with less than a minute left to cut the 5.5-point favorite Bills’ margin to three points.

Early in the fourth quarter against Seattle (-3.5 at online sportsbooks), the Patriots missed a two-point conversion that kept them behind by five. As time expired, Cam Newton was tackled short of the end zone, securing a Seahawks 35-30 win and a cover.

If you’re looking for early-season trends, the Packers have blown away the spread and the over/under. Aaron Rodgers has led Green Bay to consecutive 40-plus-point performances as well as easily covering the spread. The season over/under win total for the Packers was nine prior to the start of the season.

2019 Déjà vu in NFL Week 2

After an easy win over the Texans in Week 1, the Chiefs struggled in Los Angeles against the Chargers. It took almost an entire overtime period on Sunday, but the reigning champs pulled out a 23-20 road win.

Placekicker Harrison Butker made a 58-yard field goal to win the game after making one from the same distance that was waved off. Will the Chiefs make it to NFL Week 3 betting tips?

The Baltimore Ravens have started 2-0, winning both of their games by an average of almost 20 points. After going 14-2 in 2019, they failed to win a playoff game and are determined to return to the postseason.
