However, the league is trying to change its original deal. This has led to a massive debate surrounding the event.

Original Agreement for the NBA All-Star Game
The NBA and the NBA Players Association agreed that the league would not have an All-Star Game this season. The two parties established that All-Star week would now be a week off for the players to recover.
After all the COVID-19 restrictions, the Players Association wanted the week off, and it was granted this desire. This is no longer the case, and it appears that there will be an All-Star Game this season.
The NBA is currently negotiating with the Players Association over All-Star Game details. The game will be played on March 7 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The only thing that still needs to come to fruition is the specifics on COVID-19 testing and safety protocols.

Players Are Not Very Excited
Countless players have spoken up about their problems with having a 2021 All-Star Game. The leader of the opposition has been LeBron James, who is having a sensational year.
James is scoring 25.5 points and averaging 7.8 assists per game. James will be earning another spot in the All-Star Game this year, but he is not happy about this fact.
James stated, “I have zero energy and zero excitement about an All-Star Game this year. I don’t even understand why we’re having an All-Star Game.”
It does not seem like James’ comments are going to do anything to cancel the All-Star Game at this point.
Other former All-Star athletes like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kawhi Leonard, and James Harden have expressed their discontent as well.

Should the NBA Have an All-Star Game?
With the way the 2020-21 season has developed, I think it’s crazy to have an All-Star Game in 2021. There have been 24 postponed games this season because of COVID-19 protocol.
The All-Star Game decision is obviously being made because of dollars and cents. The league is attempting to profit in a time where revenue numbers have been cut because of the virus.
If the NBA does have an All-Star Game, it could lead to a massive COVID-19 breakout. This will shut down games and cause the NBA to lose more money. The NBA has been able to limit the virus spread and has still faced 24 game postponements.
At the All-Star Game, players from multiple teams will be in the same locker room. Having multiple players together in the same space from different areas of the country isn’t a good idea.
The league needs to think big picture when it comes to the All-Star Game. They will make more money in the long run if they don’t have the All-Star Game. Yet, I don’t think that the NBA is going to change its mind on the subject.
This is not the correct decision, but we will see if league officials come to their senses.
